Jewish students warn against anti-Semitism: “Many of us took off our Star of David”

Following the Hamas attack on October 7 and the subsequent attacks in France and Belgium, Jewish students in France feel in danger. Le Figaro Étudiant met Shirel and Joshua, two students who told us about their fears. Therefore, Shirel, a student at Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne University, says with great emotion: “Fuck Israel, we have to kill all these Jews, that’s the message we hear at the university.” And to add: “Our parents want us to come home from college right away; Many of us took off our Star of David that we wore around our necks.“. The young student with a serious face wearing a sweatshirt does not hide his anxiety. “Maybe we’re afraid of being attacked after class, especially on the subway.” And to add: “Many are afraid, many are hiding, we are making ourselves smaller.”

There is a mix between Jews and pro-Israel supporters

Joshua, student at the University of Paris Est Créteil

Joshua, a student at the University of Paris Est Créteil, thinks that this situation is unfair for French students of Jewish faith: “ Antisemitism is on the rise as there is confusion between Jews and pro-Israel supporters. “We’re over 4,000 kilometers away from this whole conflict, and yet to some people it feels like we’re holding guns and killing innocent Palestinians.”.
