A Supreme Court ruling recognized that the Treasury made a mistake decades ago in collecting personal income tax, so a small group of workers will be able to benefit in the coming months from a significant refund from the Tax Agency.
Those who worked in sectors such as metallurgy, construction or commerce between 1967 and 1978 will be able to receive up to 4,000 euros in return. According to the Supreme Court’s ruling, they should have been taxed up to 75% of their pension in contributions to mutual insurance companies and not 100% as they were.
Wow, they paid more taxes than they were entitled to for 11 years and now after the judgment they can receive their compensation. This group of people are currently retired but can claim the money that belongs to them.
In the event that one of the persons concerned dies, their relatives could claim the right to the money, if less than four years have passed since their death.
How to request a refund from the tax authorities
The reimbursement from the Treasury will be between 3,000 and 4,000 euros, in reality the amount should be higher but it is only possible to claim what corresponds to the last four years because the previous ones have already expired.
The request must be made to the Tax Agency, it can be done online, by identifying yourself in the activated systems, whether it is the Pin Code, the digital certificate or the electronic DNI.
The process can also be carried out using the number appearing in box 505 of the income tax return for the previous year. Once inside the electronic headquarters, you must access “provide additional documentation”, where we can modify the declarations of previous years, especially those before 1978.
The money returned will be different in each case and will correspond to the proportional share of the pension of the person concerned who is entitled to deduct the 25% paid in advance.
